Wow! Where is my senior year of College going? It didn't hit 'till I attended my last fall semester class of my undergraduate college career today (I say undergraduate with the option, however rare and unlikely, that future schooling is a possibility). The "real world" is knocking at my door and in six months I'll have to answer it or I may get my door kicked in.
As my Fall semester comes to a close (and the realization of my college life is soon to be over hits me like a Mac truck) my mind can't help but wonder about the present and my future. Of course, I have no idea what the future holds, but that doesn't mean that its out of my control. So, what have I done to control my own fate? Not as much as I would have hoped. I recently attended a resume/interview workshop where I learned some great pointers about the hiring process. Fortunately, I already know a great deal from being an interviewer on the hiring team from my current job. I know what looks good and what looks bad. I also signed myself up for Rutgers biggest career fair over winter break. I just need to tweak my resume and submit it online so employers can preview the goods before the fair ;) . Now, if I could just get some solid networking done. This is great and all, but my job isn't going to be life, just one aspect of it. So, what else is in store for me?
Other things of interest include, trying out for an Ultimate Frisbee Club team. Now, some of you are probably wondering, "But Bill, aren't you on a club team at school". Technically, yes, but still a College team. I intend on trying out for a regional club team made up of the best local players in any given area (most of which have graduated already). Typically, this is how good college players become great Ultimate players. You can take the College out of me in a few months, but never the Ultimate.
Something else that I have been looking into (that realistically looks like something I would have to wait a year or two on) is becoming a High School Ultimate Frisbee coach, preferably at my Alma Mater Cherry Hill West. I have always pushed myself to be the best player I can be and never let anyone or anything hold me back from that. As I look at what I've accomplished over my Ultimate career, I should be proud of myself, but I always wonder how I would be if I started in high school. My best teammates, for which I push myself so hard to out play them and never be the shadow, all started in high school. I was not given the opportunity they all had, and I want to bring that back to my high school. Ultimate is one of the most athletic sports (and SUPER fun!) and is great for Youth. Starting up the program is something that would be quite demanding time-wise and I would be wise to worry about a job now and that later when I'm financially settled.
Speaking of being financially settled before I commit to something... I WANT A DOG! There is really not much to say about this. Once I have a [decent] job and my own place then I will get a Lab. 'nough said!
