The Big Chill

The Big Chill is a charity race held on the College Ave campus of Rutgers in New Brunswick every December. Every racer (this year there were over 3,700 racers!) must bring a toy for a child. The sponsorship of the race also donated thousands of dollars to the families of underprivileged children. It is the 2nd biggest race in NJ even after 5 short years of being established. The race was a 5k that went from college ave through the campus, to the local park and back. The weather was very appropriate at 27 degrees with a wind chill of 17 (The Big Chill!). Oh yeah, and it was at 9am. Nice and early! My team registered just under 20 runners, and must of them ran better times than I. Your truly, ran 5 Kilometers or 3.2 miles in 24:36 mins. That's a rough average of just under 8mins a mile. The timing was not the most accurate considering it took a few minutes to move over 3,000 runners out of my way, so I could get a move on! I feel my time would have been closer to 23mins, but...

The Future Right Now

Wow! Where is my senior year of College going? It didn't hit 'till I attended my last fall semester class of my undergraduate college career today (I say undergraduate with the option, however rare and unlikely, that future schooling is a possibility). The "real world" is knocking at my door and in six months I'll have to answer it or I may get my door kicked in. As my Fall semester comes to a close (and the realization of my college life is soon to be over hits me like a Mac truck) my mind can't help but wonder about the present and my future. Of course, I have no idea what the future holds, but that doesn't mean that its out of my control. So, what have I done to control my own fate? Not as much as I would have hoped. I recently attended a resume/interview workshop where I learned some great pointers about the hiring process. Fortunately, I already know a great deal from being an interviewer on the hiring team from my current job. I know what looks...

New Cell Phone

In addition to my packed weekend on winning game after game, I proceeded to destroy my phone. Or should I say my old phone! My phone got soaking wet due to a ridiculous downpour that literally hurt it was raining so hard. In my failed attempt to dry my phone at an accelerated pace, I foolishly place my phone on a light bulb, which was hot enough to literally melt the screen. So, dumb me broke my phone. I jumped at the opportunity to get a new phone and no longer be ashamed at my vintage 2002 technology (ok, I was not ashamed, far from it actually). I went to a local Verizon store and purchased a LG EnV2. It is a sweet phone with a full keyboard to make texting really quick and easy. I really like it!

The Leaves Fall But Not Our Spirits

First, I would like to apologize for the large gap between this post and my last update. November has been an unforgiving month and with plenty of challenges. Not long after my thumb was removed from its cast (roughly 9 days) I re-injured my back fairly badly; to the point where I could not stand up straight for nearly two whole days in a three day period. The injury occurred on the Monday morning that started my academic hell week. I was in severe pain through Wednesday night. That week I had two mid-terms, a project and a ten page paper all due, as well as, another mid-term and paper due the following Monday. Quite a lot to be done in an eight day period. But of course it gets better. Not only did I take both exams in major pain (the doctor said, and I agree, that sitting for long periods of time would be the most painful task), but I also have supervisor training for work that Friday night from 5-9pm (in addition to my normal 15 hour work week). But that's not all! I al...

And Philly Goes NUTS!!

I know its been a few days since my Dad and I went to Game 5 [Part 2] of the World Series at Citizens Bank Park on Wednesday, but I will remember it like it was yesterday for years to come! The atmosphere of the stadium was absolutely remarkable even before the game officially started! Everyone stood through the entire game; offense, defense, between innings, it just didn't matter. Every time a Ray would step up to the plate the park roared for a strike-out. So help you ears if the batter had two strikes. You literally couldn't hear anything but nearly 46,000 Phillies fan screaming! And the same goes for every pitch delivered at a Phillies batter. Screams, yells, cheers, chants, clapping, stomping, whistles, you name it and it was being done at 110% of every person in the ball park! Honestly, I found it difficult to scream/yell/cheer when we were batting, because the game was so close I wanted to hold my breath more than anything but I knew my duty at the time was to che...

WORLD SERIES!!

Yes, that title is correct. Yours truly and Pops are going to Game 5 of the World Series tonight!! One of my bosses at work came up to me today after seeing my Phillies t-shirt and wanted to tell me that she and her husband attended Game 5 on Monday night. We quickly chatted up about it before my brain started to wonder. Well... game 5 isn't over. Are they going back to finish the game at Citizen Bank Park. She informed me that she as busy and they could not attend the finish of the game. WHAT?! Too busy for the World Series?! Well, then who is going instead?? Apparently no one. They still had the tickets and didn't give them away. After seeing my eyes light up like a 5 year old at Christmas, she offered me the tickets! (WHAAAAAAAAAAAT?!?!) I am never quitting my job... ever! The only catch is that the tickets are in Princeton with her husband. Please. SO not a big deal. PHILLIES!!!! Also at work, I had my one-on-one evaluation with one of my other supervisors t...

No Cast At Last!

Last Wednesday I got the cast removed from my right arm. FINALLY! I had a cast on since I dislocated my right thumb (and yes, I'm right handed) back on September 13th. It occurred during an Ultimate Frisbee tournament held right here at Rutgers. Probably the best thing about having the cast gone (besides throwing around a disc) is showering. Not having to double bag my right forearm like groceries is wonderful! However, there were concerns about continued limitations when using my thumb. My hand surgeon informed me that my thumb healed very well, but I was not in the clear yet. Due to minor pain in my thumb when doing some physical tests he decided that I should have a brace on my hand for another 4-6 weeks. Are you freaking kidding me, Doc?! I was just in a cast for 6 weeks. But it got better. He also said I needed physical therapy for roughly 4 weeks. Great. Anything else to ruin me a little more? Oh yeah, and no Ultimate Frisbee or lifting for at least 5 weeks. WHA...
